Scarpa Kailash Pro GTX Boots | Product Review

Scarpa Kailash Hiking Boots

I’m sure you’re wondering how these Scarpa Kailash Boots came into my life. Actually, I should say how they saved my life. It all began in a pair of borrowed boots (thanks sis) on the Scafell Pike descent. Suddenly, my legs started to moan and toes started to twinge. It’s a good old hike for any amateur adventurer but I knew something wasn’t right and on reaching the car park my fears were confirmed. Both my big toes had been squeezed to within an inch of their life and where used to be two beautiful big toenails were two black and gammy toe ends. I vowed to pick up some perfectly fitted boots and, with the help of the fab team at Go Outdoors, I’d chosen the Scarpa Kailash Boots before my next adventure. Here’s what you need to know.

Appearance & Specs

These boots offer plenty of support and comfort not to mention they have a brilliant blue lining which just peeks out over the top of the shoe by the ankle. Very trendy. As with any shoes, it’s important to test them out before handing over the cash. I tried on at least 6 pairs and although the sales assistants advice was second to none it was my feet singing all three verses of “These Boots Are Made For Walking ” which sealed the deal. On a side note, I believe Go Outdoors offer a 1 month outdoor trial period so that you can put your boots through their paces, however, I couldn’t find any information about this on their site so it could well be something I made up.

  • Weight: 1200g per pair
  • Fastening: Laces
  • Technology: Gore-TEX
  • Height: Boot Cut
  • Lining: Comfort-Flex Insole, like memory foam for your feet.
  • Sizing: Purchased 6.5 for size 6 as toes needed extra wiggle room
  • Price: £200*

*Go Outdoors offer price match so I managed to pick these up for £120. Always Google around because £80 is a huge saving.

You may or may not have noticed the above Gore-TEX label next to Technology. It’s definitely worth highlighting as it’s a real advantage for any outdoor garment. Gore-TEX technology creates a waterproof yet breathable product. Whilst other fabrics trap sweat, meaning the inside of the product becomes wet, Gore-Tex allows the sweat to escape without letting in the outside elements.

What Scarpa Thinks About The Kailash Pro GTX Hiking Boots

“Kailash Pro is the perfect choice for walkers looking for a traditional style of boot built with modern materials and techniques. Based on Scarpa’s legendary BX last, the Pro versions utilises a rich 1.8mm calf leather, weather protection from Gore-Tex, and a protective rand for added durability. All this sits on top of a Vibram outsole meaning the Kailash Pro is perfectly at home on British fells and hills”

You can read more about the boots on the Scarpa website.

In my opinion, Scarpa has created perfection. These boots are honestly terribly comfortable. The boot cut at the ankle means that your feet are always well supported and although I haven’t returned to the Scafell Pike descent I’m pretty confident I would have no issues. Waterproof and built to last these boots are the perfect companion for any hiker amateur or not.
